Michael Tshabalala of Tiscali (South Africa) spoke with Alicia Keys about her music which says she was born to play the music from the ’70s. Keys said, “It means that I feel like I was meant to make music in the 1970s, but it skipped me. I think I said that because I feel such an affinity for the sound of that generation and I do try to incorporate some of its best elements into what I do now. Clive [Davis] gave me the room to find myself as an artist. It’s rare for a debuting artist like myself to get support and not be smothered with pressure to succeed off the bat – which has helped my music come out honestly and that way everyone has come out a winner.”
