Alicia Keys Previews ‘You Don’t Know My Name’ On ‘TRL’
Alicia Keys stopped by MTV’s Total Request Live on Thursday to preview a clip from her new music video ‘You Don’t Know My Name’, the first single from her forthcoming album ‘The Diary Of Alicia Keys’. Read on for a rough transcript of her interview.
TRL: It is my real pleasure to welcome alicia keys.
[ Cheers and applause ] Hey, girl. Right here. Good to see you.
Alicia: How you doing?
TRL: I’m good. How you feeling?
TRL: Especially good now that you’re here.
Alicia: This is like a crazy show. It’s off the chain. You’re all having
a good time?
[ Cheers and applause ] Yeah. Yeah.
TRL: Now, alicia it has been two years since you put out songs in a
minor and made me a fan, swept up the grammys.
Alicia: Thank you.
TRL: I have been waiting for a record. Why you been keeping your fans
waiting so long for the follow-up?
Alicia: Thank you, yawl. I was touring for a really long time and i
was blessed to be able to tour. I wanted to take my time to put my heart
and soul into this record. That’s what I did. Now, december 2nd, it’s going
down.
TRL: All right. Now, the record — the first record had a lot of piano
and driven by that and your voice. But if the single is any indication,
it seems like you’re taking it in another direction musically. Kind of
feels like a motown vibe on the single.
Alicia: It has a little motown, early michael jackson kind of feel.
That’s a style of music that i really love. But you get a little bit of
everything on this album. This album takes every twist and turn and shows
every part of me from piano to some things you would never expect. It’s
crazy.
TRL: It sounds like it has a lot of elements to it. This is an example
of what people can expect. Want to introduce the video?
Alicia: Sure. We’ll give you a sneak peek at a video, “you don’t know
my name,” y’all.

TRL: Yeah. You looked cute.
Alicia: The thing about that video, when you see the whole thing, check
for the twist at the end. Because you never going to guess what’s going
to happen. You like me as a waitress?
