Kelly court hearing that had supporters of the singer refer to the underaged victim in the tapes as a “slut”, Mary Mitchell of the Chicago Sun-Times railed against the slanderous comment. Mitchell writes, “The negative racist and sexist stereotypes of black women that we have allowed to flourish in music videos and rap lyrics are now being hurled in our teenage girls’ faces.” She added, “We can’t blame white people for what is happening to young black girls in their communities. These girls are being sexually abused by older men, many of whom are black.
