Ne-Yo was on hand for the 23rd annual ASCAP Rhythm and Soul Music Awards on June 25 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills on Friday (June 25), where the artist took home Songwriter of the Year in a tie with The-Dream and his producing/writing partner Tricky Stewart. Ne-Yo was honored for ‘Mad’, ‘Miss Independent’ and ‘She Got Her Own’, all from his platinum-selling album ‘Year of the Gentleman’, in addition to three songs that he penned for other artists – ‘Epiphany (I’m Leaving)’ by Chrisette Michelle, ‘Knock You Down’ by Kerri Hilson featuring Kanye West and Ne-Yo, and ‘Spotlight’ by Jennifer Hudson. Beyonce Wins Six Grammys, But Loses The Big One To Taylor Swift

Beyonce Knowles attended the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday (January 31). The former Destiny’s Child star took home six Grammys, though lost out to Taylor Swift on Album of the Year.

Bloomberg’s Scarlet Fu has highlights from Beyonce’s Grammy performance and compared the salaries and business ventures of performers Beyonce and Taylor Swift. The video has since been removed.

Adele Does Want To Win A Grammy

Adele checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@adelelondon) on Sunday (December 7), reacting to a BBC report suggesting she would rather win a Grammy award for her fourth album rather than her debut. The British soul singer is nominated in four categories for the awards, which take place February 8, 2009 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. Adele writes:

I do want to win a Grammy

There’s a piece that’s just come out on the BBC website, that suggests I don’t want to win a Grammy! That’s absurd, of course I want to win one!!

I was trying to say that I think a Grammy is musics Oscars. You win an Oscar when you give a performance of your life. And I find it hard to think of my album like that! I can’t be like ‘yeah I so deserve it’, that would make me sound like a prick!

Jazmine Sullivan Talks About Getting 5 Grammy Nominations

Jazmine Sullivan spoke with People magazine about the shock she felt receiving five Grammy nominations, including the best new artist nod. “When they called the Jonas Brothers, I started getting nervous,” the 21-year-old admitted. “I was like, ‘Man … they’re huge!’ I didn’t even know they were new artists!” The Philadelphia native added, “It was surreal. Jennifer Hudson issued a statement reacting to the four Grammy nominations she received for her debut album as the Oscar winner continues to mourn the murders of her mother, brother and nephew. “It’s been a childhood dream of mine to release an album,” the 27-year-old stated, “so to receive four Grammy nominations is truly a blessing. I’m extremely honored and humbled by the nominations.”

Hudson was nominated for best R&B album for her self-titled album, best female R&B vocal performance, best R&B song for ‘Spotlight’ and best R&B performance by a duo or group with vocals for her duet with fellow ‘American Idol’ alum Fantasia ‘I’m His Only Woman.’

Chris Brown appeared shocked when his name was announced for artist of the year at Sunday night’s American Music Awards in Los Angeles. “I probably was shocked like everybody else,” Brown told reporters backstage at the Nokia Theater. “I know everybody was like, ‘Huh?’ I thought Coldplay should have genuinely won that award, but I’ll take it!”

Brown was also named favorite male artist in both the soul/R&B and pop/rock categories. Meanwhile, his rumored girlfriend Rihanna won soul/R&B and pop/rock categories on the female side, beating Alicia Keys in both races.
