Musiq Soulchild did a live set for Walmart Soundcheck in support of his sixth studio album ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’. The 33-year-old R&B singer performed ‘Ridiculous’, ‘Teach Me’, ‘So Beautiful’, ‘Do We Have To’, ‘Yes’ and ‘Medicine’.
During an interview, Musiq talked about the story behind the ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’ album title, its first single ‘Anything’ and the contribution he got from Swizz Beatz, teaming with August Rigo, Element and Jesse “Corparal” Wilson on the project, how the songs “speak to a reality I’ve experienced”, his hopes that the album can be like therapy for the listener, trying to pattern himself after Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway, and more.
“Whatever is going on in your life or whatever you’re going through, you’ve had a hard day or just broke up with somebody, whatever the case may be, I want you to be able to turn on that song, ‘Medicine’, or just my music in general,” Musiq explained. “Allow me to be someone who helps to ease whatever the stress or whatever the pain or whatever unpleasant thing that may be going on it your life. It would just help you to get into a better place.”
