Marian Liu of the San Jose Mercury News reviewed the Erykah Badu concert at the Fillmore earlier this month. Liu writes, “Badu’s laid-back music contrasted with her extreme sense of style. The 30-year-old left behind her trademark head wrap and wore an Afro a la Beyoncé Knowles in ‘Austin Powers in Goldmember.’ Badu wore a painter’s apron, jeans and high-heeled boots, but later took off her apron, revealing a loose, low-slung halter top, covering very little. It was reminiscent of J. Lo’s scandalous green stick-on dress. She bared her back, then bared her soul and mixed in sounds from Africa, contemporary jazz and hip-hop samples from Snoop Dogg, N.E.R.D, Khia and Biggie Smalls.” Bayarea.com has since removed the review.
