Mekeisha Madden of The Detroit News spoke with ’s songwriter and poet Natalie Stewart who takes issue with being labeled as “neo-soul”. She says, “When people say ‘neo-soul,’ they act like you have to burn incense and be au naturale. Our songs are conversations with the listener, music that a lot of different people can relate to. We make music. Neo-soul? How can soul music be new? It’s a new angle maybe.”
