Jim Farber of the New York Daily News reviewed the show at S.O.B.’s on Wednesday night. Farber writes, “The 30-year-old singer worked rigorously, and intimately, with her stagemates, employing as many clucks, trills and breathing effects as conventional Western vocal lines. One new song found its hook in a chorus of exhales, creating a kind of vocal yoga. Another new song conformed to the past. “Dear Misery” had the fusion-jazz keyboards of old, plus Badu’s familiar mix of influences, from Roy Ayers to Billie Holiday.
