Jim Farber of the New York Daily News reviewed the Erykah Badu show at S.O.B.’s on Wednesday night. Farber writes, “The 30-year-old singer worked rigorously, and intimately, with her stagemates, employing as many clucks, trills and breathing effects as conventional Western vocal lines. One new song found its hook in a chorus of exhales, creating a kind of vocal yoga. Another new song conformed to the past. “Dear Misery” had the fusion-jazz keyboards of old, plus Badu’s familiar mix of influences, from Roy Ayers to Billie Holiday. She and her band offered inventive twists with the hits.” The full article at nydailynews.com has since been removed or relocated.
