Kelis Doesn’t Care What Genre You Call Her Music

Kelis

spoke with SiriusXM OutQ host Larry Flick of “The Morning Jolt” about where her music fits in… or doesn’t. “I never had a hip hop audience though,” insisted when talking about the reaction from the R&B and hip hop listeners to her new single ‘Acapella’, “and I was never considered R&B. I think honestly, and I love you, but it’s radio that has to brand you to give you a title in order to put you on playlists. At the end of the day, people who listen to me could care less what you call me. If I wasn’t black, what would you call it? I’d sing the same songs and you’d have to call it pop music. They couldn’t call it R&B or hip hop.” Watch the interview via YouTube below.
