Kelis spoke with SiriusXM OutQ host Larry Flick of “The Morning Jolt” about where her music fits in… or doesn’t. “I never had a hip hop audience though,” Kelis insisted when talking about the reaction from the R&B and hip hop listeners to her new single ‘Acapella’, “and I was never considered R&B. I think honestly, and I love you, but it’s radio that has to brand you to give you a title in order to put you on playlists. At the end of the day, people who listen to me could care less what you call me. If I wasn’t black, what would you call it? I’d sing the same songs and you’d have to call it pop music. They couldn’t call it R&B or hip hop.” Watch the interview via YouTube below.
