In celebration of her new album ‘Pieces of Me’, Ledisi performed an exclusive concert for her fans with Walmart Soundcheck. The New Orleans, Louisiana R&B artist’s live set included ‘Bravo’, ‘Higher Than This’, ‘Knockin’, ‘Hate Me’, ‘Pieces of Me’ and ‘Alright’.
During an interview for the appearance, Ledisi talked about how her parents noticed she liked to perform at 8, her mother being her musical mentor, having a goal of showing different sides of herself on ‘Pieces of Me’, varying her writing process, hoping listeners will see themselves reflected her music, and being herself. “The main thing I’ve kept throughout the entire journey is to be myself,” she explained. “I’ve always changed because I’ve wanted to, and that was the fight. Can I still be myself whether I’m major or independent, I have to feel creative freedom and I have to be myself. What makes you special is that you are you. Don’t try to fit in a box. Don’t try to be like some other artist or somebody else. Just be yourself, and that what makes you special.”
