She’s been compared to many musical greats of the past – from Billie Holiday to Josephine Baker – but Lina has a vocal style all her own. This singer/songwriter is about to revolutionize music with a hybridity of contemporary jazz and R & B and just the right amount of pop.
Lina’s sophomore project, “Inner Beauty,” will be released September 28 on Hidden Beach Recordings, which she officially signed with in 2003, already home to Jill Scott, Kindred-The Family Soul, Mike Phillips and Darius Rucker. Fans can expect to hear her signature sound, and will be mesmerized by the album’s artistic lyrics which are displayed with it’s first single, “Come To Mamma.”
This songbird veers from the mass-produced recordings and mundane lyrics that often jam the airwaves. Her persona is provocative yet edgy, soulful and flirtatious. “We are very proud to have LINA join our family,” says HBR Founder Steve McKeever. “She has a one-of-a-kind sound and presence that resonates with a broad range of music fans. Her commitment to quality and originality is a perfect fit for Hidden Beach.”
She first unleashed this distinctive style with her debut album, “Stranger on Earth” (Atlantic Records). Critics heralded the LP’s bold theme, a syncopation of music past and present. Billboard raved, “Lina possesses a timeless combination of laid-back Southern warmth, introspection, spirituality, and a penchant for things jazzy and classy.”
The multitalented artist wrote all of her songs for her upcoming album and CO-produced most of them as well, in collaboration with Jeeve and Travis “T-House,” who first lent their talents on “Stranger on Earth.”
Lina’s eclectic sound gained international fans through her live performances with soul singer Craig David and rocker Joan Osborne. The songstress also dazzled sold-out crowds with rapper Guru.
This Texas-raised chanteuse isn’t afraid to take risks and elevate the music scene to vibrant levels. She sets a mood with her mellifluous voice and paints a picture for the listener through her words. Her music is a continuing metamorphosis that offers a fresh, self-assured perspective that is both youthful and wise beyond her years.
The savvy businesswoman also created her own record label, Mood Star Recordings, which will release a compilation album titled “Save Your Soul,” as its first project.
“It’s really about sharing the gift that you’re blessed with,” she says. “I just want to make people’s loads a little lighter. Music is an escape. That’s how I escape.”
