Mitchell Vantrease of the Arizona Republic reviewed Mary J. Blige’s show at the Gammage Auditorium in Tempe on Sunday and said her performance proved why she deserves the title of the “queen of hip-hop soul.” Vantrease said, “Blige delivered a great performance that didn’t rely too heavily on visuals. She appeared very humble and gracious throughout most of the concert. The singer did miss a note or two at times, but it didn’t seem to matter. By the end of the night, Blige proved why she’s the Aretha Franklin of this generation.”
