Darryl Morden of the Hollywood Reporter reviewed Mary J. Blige and Musiq’s performance at the Universal Amphitheater on Saturday (May 8). Morden writes, “Surrounded by four female and two male dancers, Blige often joined them for typically frivolous and predictable choreography, backed by pyrotechnics, including shooting flames and fireworks. The Vegas-like production slickness was a contrast to Blige’s genuine emotional outpour at the heart of her show. Though as several medleys kept coming, one had to wonder if she was ever going to complete a song. But she settled in and did so.”
