Maxwell Circulates Crowd’s Warm Response

Martin Johnson of Newsday reviewed ’s tour stop in New York on Thursday. Johnson writes, “At Jones Beach he acknowledged the audience’s enthusiastic response, but rather than merely soak it up, he aimed to circulate it. He created sing-alongs that didn’t break the momentum, and he danced to the intoxicating grooves (which, of course, drew more squeals). His band was superb. Guitarist Wah Wah Watson provided soulful accents, and occasionally charged the atmosphere with cascading clusters of notes. The horn section offered muted trumpets and warm tenor saxophone solos to heighten the mood.” The full review at has since been removed.
