Ne-Yo spoke with Billboard about working with Jennifer Hudson on the ‘American Idol’ alum and Oscar winner’s self-titled debut album. The singer and producer penned the track ‘Spotlight’ for Hudson, indicating he’s “really, really proud” the track is being selected as the disc’s first single. “They were really trying to figure out where to take her,” he explained. “The main issue with Jennifer Hudson is her voice is so huge, so how do you take that and radio-ize it, make it radio-friendly. She can’t do (‘And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going’) every song ’cause you’ll eventually be tired of it. So (‘Spotlight’) is kind of a classy midtempo, and I hope and pray it does well ’cause Jennifer is an amazing talent.” Read more.
