Nekesa Mumbi Moody of The Associated Press profiled the difficulty teen newcomer Joss Stone has trying to break into R&B radio as a white female, while Fefe Dobson may have the same struggle breaking into pop/rock radio because of her mixed race. Joss grew up listening to singers like Aretha Franklin and Al Green, and didn’t want to change to conform with what was being played on Top 40 radio. “I want to be a singer,” she says. “I’m not going to go sing pop just because I’m a white girl with blonde hair.”
