Craig David Talks U.S. Success

Radio 1 talked to Craig David following his return from the United States about his success over hear where so many other British artists have found trouble. David says, “At the end of the day, they were really just waiting to unleash it because it had been such a long time coming to the States, because we’d been everywhere else with the album, and we saved the album for America last. We dropped it and they were just ready to just go all out and out and it’s just crazy to see nearly a million copies of the album sold already. We’ve only just gone onto the second single now - so it’s crazy.” The full transcript at bbc.co.uk/radio1 has since been removed.

Warmth And Strength In New Stone / Evans CDs

Steve Jones of USA Today reviewed Angie Stone’s Mahogany and Faith Evans’ Faithfully giving each great reviews, though gave Stone’s work 4 stars with 3 stars for Evans. Jones says, “Each brings a warmth and strength of character to her music that says, sure, she’ll stand by her man, but if he crosses her, there’ll be hell to pay. Each also has a confidence in her own talent that allows her to inhabit or float over just about any kind of beat without ever relying on it to carry a song.” Read more.

Musto Offers Clothing Advice For R&B’s Finest

The Village Voice’s Michael Musto offered advice to Alicia Keys and Macy Gray telling them, “Alicia Keys, darling, I beg you to take off the headgear. You look like you’re hiding from something, and honestly, you shouldn’t, because you’re not that bad looking—really! And Macy Gray, baby, kindly burn your hats and other doodads immediately. Your raggedy bohemian chic, which was so darned endearing, has morphed into a calculated weirdness that looks like the result of countless bucks and way too much fussing by stylists. Mess it up again!”

We get so caught up in what seperates us that we forget to remember what unites us. We are humans.”

Forbes Looks At Aaliyah’s Post Death Popularity

Forbes profiled the rise in sales of Aaliyah related merchandise following her tragic death on August 25. Speaking with Trinity University sociology professor Michael Kearl, he pointed out, “There’s a curious relationship between death and rock ‘n’ roll. Rock ‘n’ roll plays with all taboo topics, which inevitably include sex and death. Look at all the bands that have death in their names–the Grateful Dead, Dead Kennedys–and there are countless rock songs about death.”
