Teresa Wiltz of The Washington Post spoke with several industry folks about the controversy that has erupted over Ashanti being named the Aretha Franklin Entertainer of the Year at the Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, which will happen on August 24th. Jonathon Sims, a Howard University senior who interviewed the singer for the student newspaper, the Hilltop commented, “People are getting sick of her. She doesn’t have staying power. She’s packaged.” Olivia Fox of WKYS’s ‘Russ Parr and Olivia Fox Show’ says, “People thought she had not been in the game long enough. I agree. When I think of Aretha Franklin, I’m thinking of people who have been in the game, who have paid their dues. Diva status.”
