Queen Latifah Remembers Luther Vandross
On the Sugar Water Festival tour, Queen Latifah performs a few songs with fellow songstresses Erykah Badu and Jill Scott, including a tribute to smooth soul crooner Luther Vandross, who died last month. “I had the pleasure and the privilege of doing a song with him on his last album,” Latifah tells. “It was kind of cool. I came and the studio was all warm and champagne was waitin’. He was an excellent host, and it was a peaceful place to be. I had him sign the bottle of champagne we just drank.” Vandross passed away not long afterward. “When I went home for the first time after the news that he had moved on, I looked at that bottle like ‘Da-a-a-amn.’ … He had such a big influence on me and so many other people. Just a perfect musician.” Read more.
