Joshua Klein of Metromix.com attended the R. Kelly performance at the Allstate Arena Friday night, and wasn’t impressed with either the headliner or opening acts Jaheim and Tyrese. Klein writes, “Kelly remains not only unrepentant but also as creatively erratic as ever. Actually, “performance” may be too strong a word. “Show” is more like it, since Kelly displayed little of his undeniable talent at the Allstate. Appearing with just a handful of backup singers and some dancers, Kelly relied heavily on backing tracks and spectacle, nearly relegating his music entirely to the background. For a long stretch of the show, Kelly barely finished a song, singing a few sections of some of his bigger hits before impatiently moving on.” Metromix.com has since removed the review.
