Ruben Studdard Tests His Wings

Allison Stewart of The Washington Post reviewed ‘American Idol’ champ ’s debut album ‘Soulful’. “Like most ‘AI’ releases, ‘Soulful’ has the feel of something cobbled together in a lab — perhaps the same one responsible for Shania Twain — and then focus-grouped to death,” Stewart writes. “Though his remarkable, honeyed voice occasionally sounds electronically worked over (and almost certainly thinned out), even Studdard at half-wattage is an impressive thing to behold.” The full review at washingtonpost.com has since been removed.
