Ruben’s Tells YM What He Was Like In High School

In the January 2004 issue of YM magazine Ryben Studdard, the 2nd American Idol winner, was in YM’s Yearbook section, where he told YM what he was like in High School. Read on for Ruben’s story of his High School Days. He says, “I played offensive tackle on the Huffman High School football team in Birmingham, AL. Athletics are a big thing in the city, and we had a good team. I sang in every school choir and was in some plays, but I can’t remember which ones. During my junior and senior years, I was also in an R&B group called Eternal Harmony with three of my friends. We’d perform in talent shows all over the state, and won most of the time.”

“I cracked a lot of jokes on people in class. I can’t really remember the specifics, but I know I got detention. Still, I was a decent student and did best in mathematics and English. My 10th grade English teacher, Ms. Ashley, was really good, and everyone loved her because she was fresh out of college and attractive.”

“The most memorable thing about high school was my friends. I was cool with everybody but was the ‘in’ crowd, if you know what I’m saying. I dated a little and had one girlfriend my senior year who I stuck with for a while. She was my main girl, but I was a ladies’ man. On weekends, everyone would go to parties after football games or to this neighborhood movie theatre that only cost a dollar. We’d hang out at the Taco Bell, too. I ordered a lot of Mexican Pizzas.”
