Raphael Saadiq tells Martin Johnson of Newsday that Stevie Wonder holds the biggest influence on his musical style. “Everyone who has a tenor voice and grew up at a certain time has to deal with Stevie Wonder,” he said. “I’ll never be able to sing as good as Stevie Wonder – not even a day in my life! To me he’s like God’s nephew. I could never sing one of his songs all the way through because I don’t know all the words, but I know all his melodies. And I think that’s where a lot of my approach comes from; I’m always looking for melody.”
