Why Was Leona Lewis A Brits No-Show?

After walking away empty handed last year, Leona Lewis didn’t show for this year’s BRIT Awards, so what did the stars make of the ‘X Factor’ winner’s no-show? ITN spoke with Calvin Harris, who reckoned she should have attended, since he showed up without even being nominated. The latest ‘X Factor’ winner Alexander Burke believes Lewis should have received more than one nomination, in the best single category which went to Girls Aloud. Watch footage, also featuring comments from Katie of The Ting Tings and Estelle below.

Estelle Swaray Discusses ‘American Boy’, Grammys

Grammy-nominated artist Estelle Swaray’s hit single ‘American Boy’ is up for “Song of the Year.” Swaray says that song was written in fun and joked that she’s getting flak from British boys. “For me this year, I’m pretty excited to be there,” Estelle said of tonight’s awards. “There’s a bunch of British people there this year as well. Adele, Coldplay and so it’s gonna be a good year I think.” Watch the interview below.

Estelle: I Write Too

Estelle

Estelle checked in with fans on her blog at MySpace (@estelleonline) on Monday (January 26), talking about songwriting, watching DL Hughley on CNN, and Michelle Obama. The British R&B singer tells readers:

Hey guys… so I decided to write.. I’m on the road with the Evolver tour and John Legend… Opening up for him no less… and having a cool time…

I’m actually as I type listening to beats for the new album… I think (at the risk of me sounding defensive but fu** it I’ma say it anyway) contrary to seemingly popular opinion… just because I work with a great songwriter does not mean he wrote or writes all my songs.. No my friends… I write also, have always written and will continue to do so.. I think that’s the only way to be completely honest as a musician…

Estelle Talks About Crazy Men, Painful Braces, McCain Parody

Estelle side shot

Estelle spoke with RTL Boulevard in a feature aired Wednesday (December 3). The singer advised women that men all around the world are crazy and American men don’t make any difference – she’s tested it out and they’re all nuts. She also says complained about her braces, since she hates pain, and her advised folks to get them while you’re young. As for the Sarah Palin and John McCain ‘American Boy’ parody (see below), she said, “I was so irritated because I’m completely against politics. I don’t want anything to do with this. It irritates the crap out of me. So I was sending e-mails, ‘Take that down! This is Estelle. I hate this! Take it down!'” The video segment at rtl.nl has since been removed.

Estelle Cites Mary J. Blige As Her Role Model

Lisa of FredFlare.com caught up with Estelle for a Q&A, asking the singer who her role model is. “Mary J. Blige! I love her,” Estelle said. “I met her, she’s lovely, it was amazing, she actually knew my name. It was so cool, especially because I never had vocal lessons and I used to listen to her CD and taught myself to sing from there. Basically she’s one of the main reasons why I do what I do, we bonded over that when we met, she feels the same way about Aretha Franklin!” The entire interview at fredflare.com has since been removed.

Estelle Video Updates

Estelle checked in with fans on her YouTube channel while in a series of locations, saying hello from Broolyn and Los Angeles, offering a shout out to Kevin Liles, Ne-Yo, and her fans, and advising people to pick up Gym Class Heroes and Kardinal Offishall’s new albums.
