Jazmine Sullivan sat down with Kevin and Makael of The Skorpion Show to discuss her sophomore album ‘Love Me Back’. The R&B singer admitted she “stressed out a lot” with the album and she “put a lot of pressure on myself” with the project. “It just clicked one day,” Jazmine said. “I kind of went back to the same process that I took when I was working on the first album ['Fearless']. I was writing whatever was natural and just being myself and being honest. So once I did that, everything started to just happen.”

Jazmine added that “this time I didn’t want to be known as the angry chick who wrote those type of songs, so I wanted to include songs that were loving and showed love and relationships in a positive way.”

Trace TV sat down with Jazmine Sullivan to talk about her new album ‘Love Me Back’, in which she collaborated with Ne-Yo on the track ‘U Get On My Nerves’, as well as her role in the movie ‘Red Tails’, a fictionalized portrayal of the Tuskegee Airmen.

“Ne-Yo. I was working in a movie with him called ‘Red Tails’. In Prague. Ne-Yo was doing a full day of shooting the movie and then going to the studio later on at night and I was just looking at him and going, ‘Wow, that’s a great work ethic to have.’ He asked me to come to the studio to work with him and I came, and he thought of the concept for the song and we started working from there. I think the reason why it was such a good chemistry was because we both really respect each other as artists and as writers. When he was writing I would feed off of him and I was writing he would feed off of me.”

Jazmine Sullivan was backstage with 106 KMEL’s Summer Jam 2010 the other evening. The R&B singer talked about being hyped after her live set, the response she’s gotten from the new single ‘Holding You Down (Goin’ in Circles)’, perfecting the ‘House Party’ dance and getting all-star cameos in the music video, growing a little bit since the first album ‘Fearless’, and what she has coming up.

“I had a lot to do with this particular video, so I definitely want to be more vocal when it comes to what I want to look like, what I want the video to look like,” she said. “I have a movie coming out. Ne-Yo is in it. Terrance Howard. I have a very small part.” She added that while she’d like to do more movies, she’s focused on the music right now.

Andpop recently caught up with Jazmine Sullivan during a visit to Toronto, where the R&B singer talked about how she started in music singing in her church, doing some songwriting in her teens, loving writing just as much as singing, still considering herself “on the verge”, not getting much rest on the road, being excited about the new album she’s working on, and more.

Asked about what she writes about, Jazmine said, “Mostly love or trying to find it or lack thereof. That’s pretty much the premise of my life right now, or then to right now, trying to figure out who I am. Man, I’m trying to figure you (men) out. I’m gonna get it one of these days. You wait, that album is just gonna be an album of understanding of men. I’m gonna have it.”

Jazmine Sullivan spoke with Soul Culture about how Missy Elliott being an early fan of her music, the pressures of image in the music industry, why she called her album ‘Fearless’ and growing into her voice and having producers that have been more concerned about making a good album than pumping out hits. Sullivan also confessed to being a big Spice Girls fan.

“I’ll say it, I feel strongly about them,” Jazmine said about her guilty pleasure. “I used to love the Spice Girls. I loved them. I watched their movies, I love everything about them when I was younger. My mom was like, ‘Why do you listen to the Spice Girls?’ I’m like, ‘They are great! They can sing everything. I truly believed in them. I was a Spice Girls fanatic.”
