Reuters reports Monica clinched the No. 1 spot on the weekly pop album charts on Wednesday with the debut of her third release, ‘After the Storm,’ knocking Luther Vandross to second place with ‘Dance with My Father’. The latest set from the Atlanta-born vocalist sold nearly 186,000 copies its first week out, marking her biggest opening to date.
R&B acts hitting talk television this week include Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland, who appears on The View as a guest host on Monday; Blu Cantrell, who performs on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Thursday and the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn on Friday; Monica, who appears on the Late Late Show on Thursday; Destiny’s Child star Beyonce Knowles, who appears on MTV’s Total Request Live on Thursday and The View on Friday.
HitsDailyDouble.com reports that according to early reports from national accounts, Monica’s new album ‘After The Storm’ has come on strong and is on track to sell over 150k for the week, and could reach 170k before the counting is done. That should be good enough to debut in the top 5, and if Luther falls significantly along with Metallica, she may land the top spot.

Monica is finally ready to release her new album ‘All Eyez On Me’ after delays and leaks, and is happy about the success of a hot new first single in ‘So Gone’. The singer says the track “takes you back to when people first heard me. It’s got that feeling like no holds barred, not trying to cater to any one audience. It was done in probably three or four hours. Missy and I did two songs a night sometimes. The song comes from us going in [the studio] for a week in Miami. We shot the video two weeks ago in Miami with Chris Robinson and Derek Luke from ‘Antwone Fisher.’ It just went really good.” Read more.
