Musiq Soulchild did a live set for Walmart Soundcheck in support of his sixth studio album ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’. The 33-year-old R&B singer performed ‘Ridiculous’, ‘Teach Me’, ‘So Beautiful’, ‘Do We Have To’, ‘Yes’ and ‘Medicine’.
During an interview, Musiq talked about the story behind the ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’ album title, its first single ‘Anything’ and the contribution he got from Swizz Beatz, teaming with August Rigo, Element and Jesse “Corparal” Wilson on the project, how the songs “speak to a reality I’ve experienced”, his hopes that the album can be like therapy for the listener, trying to pattern himself after Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Donny Hathaway, and more.
“Whatever is going on in your life or whatever you’re going through, you’ve had a hard day or just broke up with somebody, whatever the case may be, I want you to be able to turn on that song, ‘Medicine’, or just my music in general,” Musiq explained. “Allow me to be someone who helps to ease whatever the stress or whatever the pain or whatever unpleasant thing that may be going on it your life. It would just help you to get into a better place.”
The concert and interview video can be viewed at soundcheck.walmart.com. Check out additional pictures from the visit after the cut. (more…)
Musiq Soulchild filled fans in on the details of his new album ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’, including the similarities and changes from his past material, people he worked with on the project, and the type of music he wanted to make on this album. The R&B singer also discussed a couple tracks from the album. ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’ hits stores everywhere May 3rd. “I like this combination of songs actually, because some of them are pushing me to a slightly different space, that I haven’t really been in before, which is that people like to consider it crossover, more pop appeal, however not so much that I’m compromising the integrity of what people know and have grown to learn about the type of music that I put out, which is the R&B, roots, soul music elements.” Watch the comments via YouTube below.
Musiq Soulchild is out with the music video to his new single ‘Anything’, featuring Swizz Beatz, off the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania R&B singer’s upcoming album ‘MusiqInTheMagiq’, out soon on Atlantic Records. Watch it and behind the scenes footage via YouTube below.

BallerStatus.com spoke with Musiq Soulchild about his latest album ‘Onmyradio’, asking the R&B singer who or what inspires him to continue to make music in the unpredictable industry. “People. People that support my music and people that come to my shows,” Musiq said. “I’m always inspired by them, knowing that I still make music that people care about and that people choose to invest in. It’s like you just said, this industry is very unpredictable and you never know what the current climate is going to be at any given moment, so to still be current and credible and to still make music that matters to people, that’s inspiring to me.” The full story at ballerstatus.com has since been removed.
