Jay Leno joked during his Tonight Show monologue on Thursday night, “In music news, Kevin Federline is now gonna be recording a song with ‘American Idol’ winner Ruben Studdard. I believe it’s called ‘K-Fed and Overfed’.”
Conan O’Brien joked during his Late Night monologue on Friday, “Yesterday, Ruben Studdard won a lawsuit against his manager and he was awarded $2 million. Ruben Studdard got $2 million, yeah. This is great for Studdard. And even better news for Burger King.”
People magazine reports ‘American Idol’ season two champ Ruben Studdard has been awarded $2 million in his lawsuit against ex-manager Ronald W. Edwards, who Studdard claimed misappropriated more than $246,000 from him.
Mandisa tells ‘Extra’ she is hoping to make an ‘American Idol’ hookup with season two champ Ruben Studdard at tonight’s finale. “Hopefully Ruben will be there somewhere,” she confessed. “America has been looking for an ‘American Idol’ hookup somewhere, so I figured me and Ruben might as well make it happen.” Read more.
Something strange has happened to Ruben Studdard since he won the second ‘American Idol’. “I had an album that came out in 2004 that is almost about to go platinum, my first album went double platinum, I had a #1 single on Christian radio for a long time, and everywhere I went people were asking me where I was,” Studdard told MTV News from his home in Birmingham, Alabama. “I was like, ‘Have you not seen my video on BET or MTV?’ Like, my video was on heavy rotation on both stations, and everybody just kept asking me, ‘Where are you?’ So I thought maybe I just need to name this album something that will catch their attention.” Hence his forthcoming album ‘The Return of the Velvet Teddy Bear’, a reference to Studdard’s ‘Idol’ nickname, given to him by guest judge Gladys Knight. When Mandisa was asked about comparisons between her and Ruben Studdard, the singer touched on how plus size women are viewed differently than plus size men. “Well, I love Ruben so I will take it,” she said in a teleconference with reporters. “But I think there’s a little bit of a double standard when it comes to plus size males and females. I think males are a little bit more accepted than females are. And I am so glad that I was able to get this far and I just feel like America is able to embrace a woman that’s a plus size, just as much as a man can be called a velvet teddy bear. I think America can say that a woman can be as well.” Mandisa also added, “Well, I just think that women so often in media, we just see lots of different images for how we’re supposed to look. And you don’t see it quite as much with men. And I think that that’s got a lot to do with it.”
Conan O’Brien joked during his Late Night monologue on Tuesday night, “This week, Ruben Studdard announced that he’s starting an after-school program that will teach young people lessons about the music industry. Yeah, the first lesson — always ask to be paid in ham.”
During the ‘In The Year 2000’ comedy segment on ‘Late Night with Conan O’Brien’ on Wednesday, guest Jon Lovitz predicted: “Ruben Studdard will invent a new version of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, called 60 Pounds of Tasty Bacon.”
