Jim Derogatis and Abdon M. Pallasch of the Chicago Sun Times put together a fantastic account of R. Kelly’s child porn charges and his career and sex escapades that led up to it. Amongst the items revealed:
– Kelly’s family man image largely an act. Before his mother who died of cancer 1993, she checked in under an assumed name because she couldn’t pay medical bills. She also drove a beater car she had to hotwire to start.
– Former manager Barry Hankerson, who was uncle to Aaliyah, reportedly left Kelly in 1998 because he could not abide by his client’s behavior, and that he agreed to waive money owed him if Kelly sought psychiatric help. Kelly refused.
– Jive Records chief Clive Calder was reportedly warned about Kelly’s behavior in 1998.
