Usher Rebuffs Strong Chart Debut By Country Rookie

Billboard reports logged his seventh week atop the U.S. albums chart Wednesday, narrowly fending off a strong No. 2 bow by country newcomer Gretchen Wilson. According to Nielsen SoundScan data for the week ended May 16, ’s ‘Confessions’ sold 228,000 copies, taking its eight-week haul to 3.4 million copies. Wilson’s ‘Here for the Party’ went home with almost 227,000 fans, a first-week record for a country rookie.
